
ARTIST STATEMENT
Margarita Chacón Bache’s artistic statement reflects her journey from painting reality to embracing abstraction, where she finds both freedom and challenge. Her work, the product of years of experimentation with different techniques and mediums, explores the decomposition of shapes through light, intense colors, and free, dynamic strokes, creating a strong visual impact. She strives to capture the beauty of light and color, expressing feelings, thoughts, ideas, and moods to communicate with the viewer and invite them into her inner world where light and colors are her primary means of expression.
SHORT BIO
Margarita Chacón Bache is a Mexican multidisciplinary artist whose mediums include painting, installation, photography, and art objects. A self-taught artist, she has reinforced her artistic education by participating in workshops with well-known artists in Mexico and the United States.
Chacón has held several solo exhibitions, such as “Cromatic Memories” at Zócalo Metro station in Mexico City in 2024, “Connecting Dreams” at the Tridimensional Art Museum Azcapotzalco in 2023, and “Moments” at the Representation of the State of Veracruz in 2023. Other notable solo exhibits include “Time and Memory” at Fundación Sebastián in 2022, “Impasse” at Via Libre Espacio Gallery in 2021, and “Roots,” a traveling exhibit at the Mexican Residency in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 2018. Her work has also been showcased at the Museum of Modern Art in Toluca (2011), Museum Arcadio Pagaza in Valle de Bravo (2011), and IVEC Gallery in Veracruz (2010). Additionally, Chacón’s exhibit “Amongst Agave” traveled to the Zanbatha Museum in Lerma in 2019 and the Merida City Museum in 2018. She has been featured in exhibitions at Gallery Alfredo Atala Boulos in 2019, University Museum Leopoldo Flores in 2012, and Colors of México at The State Department in 2013, among others.
Her prolific career includes participation in over 100 group shows in galleries and museums across Mexico, the USA, France, Spain, Finland, Romania, Turkey, Iran, Qatar, India, Nepal, China, Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mauritius, Peru, Chile, Colombia, and Argentina. Chacón’s distinctions and awards are numerous: her installation “Ideales al Vuelo” commemorated the 50th Anniversary of the Student Movement of 1968 at the Faculty of Science, National University of Mexico. She received an Honorable Mention in both the I and IV Biennale of Contemporary Art of Argentina and the Andrés Henestrosa Award in Painting in Oaxaca in 2018. She has been selected for exhibitions like Women’s Art Now at the Yangpyeong Art Museum in Korea and the Jaipur Kala Chaupal Art Festival. In 2016, she was honored with the Distinguished Citizen Award by her hometown, Tuxpan, Veracruz, and represented Mexico at the Suncheon Eco-Environmental Art Festival in South Korea. Her works “Revolucionario” and “Mayahuel” were chosen as pieces of the month by the Torres Bicentenario Museum in 2013 and 2019, respectively.
Chacón has also served as a juror at the No Lockdown for Creativity Competition by the India Embassy in Mexico City, the Open Art Competition at the Leopoldo Flores Museum in Toluca, and the V International Salon of Visual Arts in Trujillo, Peru. She co- curated the America’s Pavilion at the 19th Biennale of Asia in Bangladesh in 2022. Her work is part of public collections at the Leopoldo Flores Museum, Hospital Angeles Morelia, the Mexican Cultural Center of Contemporary Art, Iberoamericana University, CETYS University, the Lebanese Foundation in CDMX, and the Dragon Cultural Center in Shanghai, as well as in numerous private collections in Mexico and abroad.
Chacón is an active member of the ARTAC Mexican Association of Plastic Artists and the IAA International Art Association associated with UNESCO. She is also an ambassador for Mondial Art and the International Art Caravan. Currently, she lives and works in Mexico City.
